Follow up -- April 22, 2006 Tree Planting Project, Sunderland, VT
|
On a recent cold, grey Saturday morning in April -- Earth Day in fact -- a group
of volunteers from the SWVT TU chapter, along with an enthusiastic group of
students from St. Michaels's College, gathered in the fields behind the
Battenkill Inn in Sunderland, VT, to plant 30-odd sugar and red maple trees
(approximately 10'-15' tall) along the banks of the Battenkill, in the fields
behind the Inn. The end goal: to help rebuild, extend and protect the fragile
riparian zone along the banks of the Battenkill on the property of Alan and Judy
Edmunds in Sunderland, VT.
|
We extend our special thanks to the following individuals and groups who
contributed:
- Alan & Judy Edmunds, proprietors of the Battenkill Inn, Sunderland, VT - for
their willingness to act on protecting and improving the riparian zone along
their stretch of property adjoining the Battenkill.
- The Flyfishing Club from St. Michael's College, Colchester, VT - for joining
us on a cold, wet weekend to roll-up our collective sleeves and get to work.
- Ed Vallerie, SWVT TU - for bringing his scoop down and making extremely
short work of digging the holes for the root-balls.
- Everyone else who participated in one way or another by digging, hauling,
raking, rolling, watering, cutting, back-filling, staking, sledge-hammering,
organizing, planning, etc.
