Green Up Day 2008 - Follow Up

Walloomsac River, Bennington, VT

A hard working group of dedicated SWVT TU members and friends filled about 4 dozen large garbage
bags with assorted junk pulled out of the Walloomsac River and streamside vegetation, in Bennington,
VT on Friday, May 2nd, 2008.

The group's haul consisted of scrap lumber, construction debris, plastic, glass and aluminum cans
and bottles, rusty metal junk, countless plastic worm containers, car tires, a sled, and assorted
detritus washed downstream from backyards during high-water/spring run-off. The group concentrated
on the major access points along the Walloomsac from the Woodford town office on Rt 9 east of town,
downstream to the VT/NY stateline.

All in all, the weather cooperated and we had a decent day for the clean-up. Those who participated
were happy to have been a part of the overall Green Up Vermont effort. One of the volunteers was
over-heard saying:
"I can't believe I'm taking a day off work to go not-fishing..."
while suiting up in waders and work-gloves, it was obvious that all involved had a great time.
